DVB Pavilion to highlight DVB-S2, DVB-H, MHP technology

At NAB2004, the DVB pavilion will mark a milestone in the development of a number of key DVB standards.

The pavilion will feature an end-to-end demonstration of MHP technology. MHP is the basis for the world's open-API standards: ACAP, OCAP, MHP, and ARIB Execution Engine, through the Globally Executable MHP (GEM) standard.

Interactive and other enhanced services are seen as key to adding value to the digital television experience, be it HDTV or SDTV. DVB remains at the forefront of the development of open API systems, which offer the best technology, and other associated measures to facilitate access to that technology, ensuring interoperability in the market.

Other highlights at this year's NAB will be the release of DVB's two landmark specifications: DVB-S2, and DVB-H. Building on the success of DVB-S, DVB-S2 offers a wider range of operating conditions, ensuring flexibility that is applicable for the foreseeable future.

DVB-H is another key DVB technology which will be showcased at the DVB Pavilion. Featuring extended receiver battery life and more robust operation typically required for handheld applications, DVB-H is a key co-operation network technology facilitating access to DVB services on mobile handheld devices.

The DVB Pavilion will also host a number of technology demonstrations from several companies, including: DigiSoft, an interactive television software developer; Fraunhofer IMK, a European applied research organization for new media; Osmosys, provider of Open Standard Middleware solutions; and U.K.-based Strategy & Technology.
