DirecTV has announced that it will be using H.264 video compression from ATEME to deliver video content to its on-demand subscriber base.
“We are committed to providing our customers with the best television viewing experience possible”, said Hanno Basse, DirecTV’s vice president of broadcast systems engineering. “The ATEME solution is a significant step for us in bringing pristine 1080p quality to our customers, who have come to expect only the best from us. ATEME has tremendously improved our quality of service.”
ATEME’s Kyrion File Encoder system will allow the service provider to streamline its tapeless content production process by automating the video encoding. With the system, DirecTV will also be able to accelerate content delivery to its customers.
