Digital Vision, Vistek develop HD standards converter

Digital Vision and Vistek have signed a joint development agreement to develop a high-quality, motion-compensated HDTV standards converter. The companies have also signed an OEM agreement whereby Vistek will manufacture and sell the products through its existing dealer channels.

The new standards converter will address the increasing need in Europe for high HD standards conversion using the PAL format. The format is based on a 50Hz field rate and therefore incompatible with the 60Hz formats used in the U.S. and other countries.

The system will combine Digital Vision’s PHAME motion estimation algorithm with Vistek’s expertise in video format conversions. The companies have worked together previously on a similar product for SD applications.
