Digigami is shipping MegaPEG HDTV for Macintosh OS X-based laptops and workstations. MegaPEG is its flagship MPEG-2 encoder for compressing HD video into MPEG-2 (ISO/IEC 13818) bitstreams.
The company said the end-result is creation of streams compatible with ATSC, ISDB-T (Japan) and European (EBU) standards for HD, which can instantly prompt SD upconversion and HD downconversion, as well as conversion from ATSC to EBU (and vice versa).
The product is now in its third major revision since 1996. MegaPEG HDTV is a single-pass MPEG encoder using a floating point video pre-processing pipeline which supports both constant (CBR) and variable bit rate (VBR) operation. Trade-offs between compression time and picture quality (encoding accuracy) are available in a GUI, which taps into an 11-position slider that configures the encoder.
