European remote production company CTV Outside Broadcast has opted for a completely tapeless HD workflow, equipped through collaboration between GearBox and EVS.
CTV OB needed a solution that would encompass tapeless field editing and archiving and be compatible with Apple Final Cut Pro. GearBox suggested the EVS XT server for ingest and playout, the IPDirector suite for logging and associating metadata to clips, and the XF for portable archiving and transfer capabilities.
The XT is used to record HD 1080 50i material on-site and is then logged on the IPDirector. Selected clips are then transferred to the Final Cut Pro G-Speed XL 6TB fiber array using the XT's GigE connection or the XF. The XT natively supports the Apple ProRes422 HD codec, which makes all clips recorded on the XT immediately available to the Final Cut Pro stations for editing.
When editing is complete, an editor exports the sequence to QuickTime, and it is automatically transferred to a selected XT server for playback, even before the copy is complete.
