Cox to Offer HD DVRs

Add Cox Communications to the growing list of cable providers now offering hi-def DVRs to its HDTV subscribers.

The Atlanta-based MSO is offering the service to subscribers in San Diego and will soon launch in Gulf Coast and Gainesville, Fla., and Santa Barbara, Calif., Phoenix, Las Vegas, Oklahoma City, North Carolina and Northern Virginia markets.

Cox will leased the Scientific-Atlanta 8010 HD set top box for $9.95, plus an additional $9.95 per month for the service, which allows subscribers to record approximately 20 hours of HD (up to 80 hours of standard def) programming. Cox is expected to announce a similar agreement to offer HD DVR service on Motorola boxes in the near future.

Comcast also offers HD DVR service to subscribers in selected markets.
