More than half of the consumers polled in a recent survey say they are interested in a 3-D display in the home, and a sizable number of that group expects to see a 3-D product for the home in the next one to two years, according to a new survey.
Additionally, three-fourths of the consumers who took the Quixel Research poll reported they have seen a 3-D movie, and nearly 75 percent of respondents say they would recommend a 3-D experience to family and friends.
The research findings from the market intelligence company focusing on home theater and entertainment are presented in a new study, “3-D Displays for Mainstream Consumers.”
The findings are based on an online survey of more than 750 HDTV owners looking to quantify and qualify their opinions on 3-D technology.
The survey found:
- 75 percent of respondents have had a 3-D experience, and 73 percent said that they would recommend 3-D to friends or family.
- Nearly half of those surveyed are interested in watching 3-D at home; younger respondents and those who have seen a 3-D movie recently are even more interested.
- More than a third expect 3-D TV within one to two years. Almost half said they have a high preference to receive 3-D content via their cable/satellite provider, while Blu-ray disc was their most preferred method.
- More than half of respondents agreed that 3-D makes movies and games more enjoyable. Gamers found the 3-D experience slightly more enjoyable than the overall sample.
