CNBC Europe, in London, has installed a multichannel Neptune automation system from Pebble Beach Systems to playout the Sci-Fi channel on the U.K.-based Sky Digital service. CNBC plans to control other channels with the same system in the future.
At CNBC, the Neptune system is controlling a four-port Omneon Video Networks server; a six-port SeaChange International server; a Sony FlexiCart with two VTRs; a Pixel Power Clarity character generator; a Quartz Q32 SDI router; a Grass Valley Venus routing switcher; external VTRs; and a Softel subtitler.
The system includes configurable PC clients that can control both ingest and transmission functions, and for handling playlists, an automatic schedule record list utility and a playlist translator. This enables Neptune to interface to the existing MSA Focus traffic system.
The system at CNBC London also features the Pebble Beach Periscope tool, a timeline viewer that allows any operator to monitor all playing channels on a single screen. The system also has a spare device controller with a changeover switch for redundancy.
