Both companies are members of The Vitec Group, and will now combine their resources and integrate their personnel under the Vitec Group Communications (VGC) name. They’ll retain their separate brand identities in world markets. Joop Janssen, currently Vitec’s chief executive for its broadcast systems division, will serve as acting general manager of the new VGC.

The Clear-Com brand will focus primarily on the international broadcast markets, as well as live performance/theatre, public safety and military/aerospace/government, while the Drake brand will continue to offer its Air Traffic Control, space and training and simulation products.

The new company will offer 200 products and customers will have a comprehensive choice of communications solutions using compatible products and operating systems. The existing line of high-end digital matrix intercom systems formerly offered by Drake will now be available under the Clear-Com brand name. Clear-Com products needed as accessory support to Drake matrix systems sold into the ATC markets will be branded as Drake. Customers will have access to 24-hour technical support.

VGC will have a single management team, combined R&D resources, a unified sales force and a single network of distributors. The company will continue to operate sales offices and production facilities at its existing premises in Emeryville, CA, and at the Cambridge Research Park in the U.K.
