Cisco, Time Warner Market ‘HD Education’ Web Site

Cisco and Time Warner Cable are joining forces in an attempt to give consumers enough useful information to make intelligent decisions about HD technology that will best suit their needs and pocketbooks, and encourage future subscribers to sign on for HD service.

The online information resource, HD Clear & Simple, went live Aug. 20 and is designed to help consumers by clearing up common misconceptions about HD and the equipment and services necessary to receive HD programming, according to Engadget HD.

A TWC exec said while consumer interest in HD continues to grow, many people still do not know how to receive 1080i or 720p content once they purchase an HD set, so the new Web site underscores three basic points for accessing HD programming: 1) buy an HD television set; 2) sign up for an HD service and get the appropriate digital set-top box; 3) access the HD channel tier, not the analog channels that may carry the same content. (Not surprisingly, the Web site does inform consumers that HD also is available via satellite or terrestrially.)

Cisco Systems, based in San Jose, designs and manufactures much of the equipment now used by TWC subs.
