China’s Wenzhou Television upgrades operations with Grass Valley

Wenzhou Television, located in China’s southeastern Zhejiang Province, has begun a major renovation of its station operations with the installation of a new SD digital signal distribution infrastructure that includes Grass Valley technologies.

In order to handle the recording and playout of culture programs, Wenzhou Television recently purchased a Grass Valley K2 server and storage system and a GeckoFlex 8900 frame with several signal conversion modules.

The new equipment will operate alongside a number of existing systems to support six channels. Five will handle program recording and playout while the sixth will serve as a redundant backup channel to protect against system failures and keep the station on-air 24/7.

With the GeckoFlex platform, Wenzhou Television can include all currently shipping signal processing modules as well as future modules supporting extended functionality such as HD 3G-SDI and fiber optics. The 2RU GeckoFlex frame is backwards compatible with all existing Gecko modules.
