CCTV Adopts Thomson Capture, Editing Solutions

China Central Television (CCTV) will use Thomson Grass Valley high-definition camcorders and Edius nonlinear editing solutions to capture the Beijing Olympics.

Fifteen Infinity DMC1000 HD camcorders were purchased by CCTV for use with several Edius nonlinear editing workstations at its News Production Department in Beijing. CCTV will produce live coverage in 1080i/50 HD or 720p of Olympic competitions.

The high-quality JPEG2000 codec will be employed on all of the camcorders during the Olympics to streamline CCTV's HD workflow and bring finished segments to air faster.

Clips captured with the Infinity during the Games will be offlined in the field on laptops equipped with the Thomson Grass Valley Edius editing system using an external USB REV PRO drive. Edit lists created from the laptops will then be transferred to Edius NLE workstations for online finishing.

The finished program files will be delivered to CCTV's news network for storage, sharing, and management.
