BSkyB awards major HD studio contract to Sony

British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB) has awarded a major contract to Sony to construct and equip the broadcaster’s new HD television studio facilities. This is in support of a planned 2006 launch of a premium HDTV package.

Sony will act as the prime contractor for the creation of new studios at the broadcaster's Isleworth headquarters in west London and supply equipment for edit and dubbing suites. Sony will also train the BSkyB operations staff to streamline the transition to HD production.

Sony HD equipment in the new studios will include the HDC-1500 studio cameras, more than 60 HDCAM and HDCAM SR format VTRs, the MVS-8000A series multiformat production switchers, the MVE-8000 digital effects, and Sony HD LCD monitors.
