Snell & Wilcox Push Big 'Kahuna'

At the NAB show last week, Snell & Wilcox demonstrated its new Kahuna switcher that "defies definition" since it can handle either HD or SD--or both simultaneously, in the same mainframe with the same control panel. (That, apparently, is an industry "first.") And the Kahuna, among other things, can incorporate SD sources into HD product without the need for upconversion (it calls it "FormatFusion").

The firm's new pride and joy features 1-4 M/E versions, accepts all HD-SD formats, has 80 field-upgradeable inputs and 40 assignable outputs, each keyer has luma and linear keying and has clipstores with 12 seconds of uncompressed HD. Options include 4 twin channels, or 8 channels of 3D DVE effects with warps.
