Broadcast Facilities Inc. (BFI), a Los Angeles-based media services company, has announced its acquisition of Crawford Communications’ Satellite Services division. The purchase involves all of Crawford’s television network origination business, sat uplink trucks and terrestrial uplinks, as well as the operation’s Internet, production and government services businesses.
“We have always had the highest regard for the team at Crawford, the technical innovations that they have implemented, and their unique customer focus,” said Simon Bax, BFI’s CEO. “By combining our resources, and our West and East Coast locations, we will now be able to provide a more comprehensive range of services for our clients.”
Atlanta-based Crawford has one of the largest network origination facilities in the country. It has been in operation since 1984 and employs 335 persons. The satellite operation performs more than 40,000 program feeds each year and originates or turns around traffic for more than 200 full-time television networks.
The acquisition price was not disclosed.
BFI previously acquired the Andrita Media Center, a multichannel server-based network origination, satellite transmission and production/post-production facility in 2008.
