BendBroadband selects nCUBE for HDVOD

In an effort to offer high-definition movies and local programming on-demand to its digital cable subscribers in central Oregon, BendBroadband has chosen nCUBE’s on-demand video server and nABLE interactive management software. The deployment marks the first rollout of nCUBE’s HDVOD system.

Following a $12 million upgrade to its headend and network infrastructure in July 2003, BendBroadband plans to offer its digital cable customers the ability to view HD subscription video-on-demand (VOD), complete with pause, rewind and fast forward capabilities using their remote controls. BendBroadband will begin testing the system in March and the on-demand service is expected to launch in May.

Ray Spreier, co-president and general manager of BendBroadband, said HDVOD provides a competitive advantages over other video services in the area.

The nABLE on-demand management system is a complete set of VOD business management and technical operations tools, including real-time and historical intelligence reports. Its open software architecture offers cable operators flexibility and ease of operation in deploying and integrating their on-demand service.
