Baraka Post Production in London has provided post-production services for the new short film and comedy “The Braai” from South African director Shaun Cairns.
Baraka's offline editor Ben Luria cut and edited the film over two days using the Avid Media Composer.
Online editor Eliot Milbourn used the new Mistika HD post-production system to achieve the special effects and online post-production work required in the film. This is the first project Baraka has completed using the new system, which has been in beta testing recently. It’s also the first time Mistika in HD has been used for the post production of a short film.
"Where many facilities are only beginning to install their first HD systems, Baraka is a step ahead and is now installing its second generation editing and compositing software to meet our increasing HD workload,” said Baraka Managing Director David Cox. “Many other facilities have been approaching Baraka for advice on HD."
Eliot Milbourn, editor at Baraka explains: "Mistika's ability, flexibility and speed simply outperforms everything else. Baraka's projects include work at many non-standard high resolutions, and Mistika seamlessly handles the co-existence of all those resolutions.”
In “The Braai,” Milbourn used Mistika’s new telecine style three-ball color corrector to achieve a sunny day burnt-out look. Editors used the plasma generator to add artificial heat mirages, and use of the system's distort tools heightened the film’s “molten hot mysterious power.”
“The Braai” will be screened at short film festivals this year.
