UK broadcaster ITN has completed the installation of an end-to-end Avid digital workflow for its ITV news service. The new system which will also be used to produce the ITV News at Ten and Channel 4 News bulletins, is based on Avid's Interplay workflow engine, iNEWS control system and Unity ISIS media network.

The investment follows a shift within Channel 4 and ITV news towards greater involvement at all stages of the news production process by journalists. The new installation enables ITN to offer content via a wider range of delivery platforms including the Web and mobile phones. Managing media asset across a shared network is also simplified using the system.

"The media asset management tools available with Interplay, together with a very high performance and scalable server in Avid Unity ISIS, embodied how we felt a modern news production system should work," said Keith Cass, Director of Technology at ITN.

Channel 4 News went live on the new system at the end of January 2008, and the ITV News went on-air in April 2008.
