Avid introduces its DNA family

Avid displayed its DNA family at NAB2003. The line of digital NLE accelerators includes the Avid Mojo, Adrenaline and Nitris. The products were designed for processing media, from DV25 to 10-bit HD.


The Avid Nitris performs in real-time for up to eight streams of SD media and two streams of 10-bit HD media.

The Avid Nitris is designed to facilitate creative editing, conforming and finishing of all types of projects at multiple compressed and uncompressed SD and HD. It performs in real-time for up to eight streams of SD media and two streams of 10-bit HD media for effects such as real-time dissolves, SMPTE wipes, DVEs, Symphony-style color correction, HD Universal Mastering, keys and downstream graphics.

Other features include:

  • HD, NTSC and PAL support on the same system without reformatting drives
  • Support for uncompressed ATSC HD formats, including 1080i at 30, 29.97, 25 Hz; 1080 PsF at 30, 29.97, 25, 24, 23.976 Hz; and 720p at 60, 59.94 Hz
  • Support for uncompressed PAL and NTSC ITU-R-601 formats; DV25, DV50 and MPEG IMX standard definition formats; 2K formats; and Avid legacy SD


The Avid Adrenaline supports DV25, IMX, DV50, Meridien JFIF, AVR and uncompressed 601 resolutions.

The Avid Adrenaline processes uncompressed SD video over a single FireWire cable. It provides the media processing power of 10 3 GHz Pentium processors. It supports DV25, IMX, DV50, Meridien JFIF, AVR and uncompressed 601 resolutions. It is compatible with other Avid editing solutions and is able to expand to offer 10-bit video and 24-bit audio capabilities, and built-in HD upgradeability.

Other features include:

  • MXF and OMF support
  • Progressive offline resolutions 14:1, 28:1, 35:1
  • Analog standard definition video I/O; YPrPb, S-Video, and Composite I/O; 8-and 10-bit SMPTE 259M SDI for standard-definition video I/O; and 8 audio channels (I/O and Monitoring) plus S/PDIF Digital I/O


The Avid Mojo provides a full complement of real-time DV, S-Video and Composite I/O ports all wrapped in a rugged anodized aluminum case.

The Avid Mojo is a portable digital nonlinear accelerator. It delivers real-time effects and simultaneous DV and analog output with Avid Xpress Pro and Avid NewsCutter XP systems. It can connect to any qualified Mac or PC system via a single FireWire cable and scales from DV25 to uncompressed SD video.

The Avid Mojo provides a full complement of real-time DV, S-Video and Composite I/O ports all wrapped in a rugged anodized aluminum case. It is connected via a single FireWire cable to qualified Mac or PC system.

Other features include:

  • Genlock synchronization to black burst on both analog and digital ports
  • Real-time video monitoring, analog-DV and DV-analog conversion, and uncompressed graphics and titles (via analog output)
  • Adds ability to deal with uncompressed 601 media
  • Multi-channel audio punch-in with low-latency monitoring
