Australia’s Nine Network turns to TANDBERG Television for digital ENG

TANDBERG Television will equip the Nine Network, an Australian free-to-air digital television provider, with an advanced digital electronic newsgathering (DENG) solution.

The system will be used for live local news and event coverage across Nine's diversified broadcasting territories.

This year, Nine Network will create and deliver more than 4000 hours of locally produced programming, much of which includes live news, event coverage and sports reported from the field.

The Nine Network, which currently uses analog microwave links to transmit the footage, is turning to digital ENG to meet its new frequency allocation needs and enable it to use a more sophisticated, reliable and flexible newsgathering system.

As well as using COFDM modulation to overcome multi-path problems and interference issues, the system relies on diversity reception and auto configuring remote repeaters to extend the range of the ENG network.
