AT&T introduces U-Verse to Houston residents

AT&T launched its U-verse fiber-based IPTV and broadband service Nov. 30 to select areas of Houston.

The Houston deployment is the second commercial AT&T U-verse TV rollout following the launch of the fiber-optic-based service to San Antonio residents in June. AT&T plans to expand the availability of its U-Verse service on an ongoing basis.

AT&T U-verse offers customers a combination of digital TV channels, including more than 25 HD channels, and high speed Internet access. Customers can choose from five TV and three Internet packages.

The deployment is part of AT&T's strategy to compete with cable TV operators and other telecoms for customers’ subscription TV and Internet dollars. The service underscores the company's strategy to deliver integrated services to the three screens many consumers say are most valued today: the PC, the TV and the wireless phone.
