ATSC names Whitaker VP of standards development

Jerry C. Whitaker, a former editor and associate publisher for Broadcast Engineering magazine, has been named Vice President of Standards Development for the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) by its Board of Directors.

Whitaker, who currently serves as secretary of the Technology Group on Distribution, joined the ATSC in October 2000 to coordinate technical standards activities within the organization, helping to streamline its standards development process by providing technical support to various subcommittees and through implementation of efficient tools for use by member companies. He has also spearheaded training and educational efforts, developing seminars and Web-based resources.

Before joining ATSC, Whitaker was the president of the consulting and publishing firm Technical Press. He also served as editor and associate publisher for Video Systems magazine. Previous positions include radio station chief engineer and television news producer.

Whitaker is a Fellow of the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) and a Fellow of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE).
