Ascent Media offers uncompressed HD signal transmission

Ascent Media Network Services (AMNS), a provider of outsourced network origination services, is now offering uncompressed HD video feeds for a growing range of clients via its New York City-based switching facility. To support this, AMNS is currently upgrading its fiber connectivity to enable uncompressed HD transport between its midtown Manhattan switching center and its Glenbrook, CN, earth station.

In recent months FOX News, NBC have upgraded or added to their presences at the AMNS switching center in order to send and receive uncompressed HD signals via AMNS’ satellite and/or dedicated fiber transmission services.

On July 4, the facility received 14 hours of uncompressed HD produced by NBC’s Peacock Productions, encoded it and uplinked it in real time via satellite for broadcast on The Travel Channel. The contribution service was provided to televise a live, 4th of July celebration from the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

Ascent has equipped the NYC location with an NVISION NV8256-Plus video router, featuring a 1.5Gb/s switching matrix and 160 x 160 input/output capacity. The facility has also installed several Tektronix WFM700 and WFM7100 series waveform monitors as well as Sony and Marshall HD video monitors to facilitate quality control of the bandwidth-intensive HD signals.
