Anystream Hires New CEO, Acquires Online Video Business

Anystream has tapped Internet pioneer Fred Singer, former senior vice president and chief operating officer of AOL and a founder of WashingtonPost.com, to lead the company’s emerging education and media businesses as CEO.

Fresh on the job, Singer acquired Cauldron Solutions, a provider of products for the distribution of and transactions around on-demand content, in a deal that Anystream says transforms its media group from an encoding business to a full revenue-producing platform capable of uniting business units within a media organization.

After working at AOL, Singer was involved with the early growth of the Internet in Asia as an advisor to Masayoshi Son, president and CEO of Tokyo-based Softbank Corp. He serves or has served on the boards of DoubleClick, The Motley Fool, iReit, Claria, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Queen’s School of Business, and Upper Canada College.

Anystream has more than 700 multinational customers for its products to move media between broadcast and the Web, including CNN, Scripps, Accuweather.com, MTV, and MLB.com. The company also offers video learning solutions and lecture capture for higher education with more than 160 universities worldwide.

“Anystream is positioned to be a major player in the Web 2.0 world where time and place will be irrelevant to accessing premium media and educational content,” said Singer.
