3D Jackson Tribute Planned for Grammy Awards

LOS ANGELES: A 3D short created for the late Michael Jackson’s “This is It!” tour will be featured on the Jan. 31 Grammy Awards telecast as a tribute to the singer. Grammy organizers are saying the feature, “Earth Song,” will debut in the broadcast on CBS. The network is teaming up with target to provide glasses--presumably anaglyph--for the show.

Jackson was featured in a 3D movie in the 1980s, “Captain EO,” which appeared in Disney’s amusement parks. None of the late singers’ videos were slated for 3D production as of December, when Sony chief Sir Howard Stringer said as much. Sony produced the movie of Jackson’s final dress rehearsal for “This is It!” even though it was captured in HD using multiple cameras. Jackson died suddenly before the tour was launched. His memorial service drew 31 million viewers at mid-day on a Tuesday.
