Media Chief Ferree to leave FCC

Kenneth Ferree, chief of the FCC’s Media Bureau, has informed his staff that he plans to leave the agency March 4. His exit would coincide with that of FCC Chairman Michael Powell, who has announced that he will leave the commission in March.

Ferree, who supported Powell on efforts to deregulate media ownership rules, has created a plan to end the DTV transition by the end of 2008. Though the NAB has opposed the plan, there’s still a possibility it could come before the full commission before Ferree leaves the FCC.
