AccuWeather rolls out competitor to NBC Weather Plus

The Local AccuWeather Channel gives stations an alternative in competing with the newly launched NBC Weather Plus.

AccuWeather is launching The Local AccuWeather Channel.

The new channel offers stations both brand extension and advertising avails in a fully automated 24-hour format.

The company is positioning the new channel as a way for local stations to compete with NBC’s recently launched Weather Plus, according to Joel Myers, AccuWeather founder and president.

The Local AccuWeather Channel is intended to attract viewers with accurate forecasts, radar and current conditions, and high-quality graphics. The channel also will point viewers back to the station’s flagship broadcast programming.

The channel is designed to let a local station customize its look by adding live or recorded segments from its news, weather and sports talent or from local live cameras. It also can be used as a turnkey system, feature graphics only or be used with video segments from AccuWeather’s weather talent.

The new channel has already launched in selected markets, including New York City, and is available for immediate delivery in new markets.
