Vyyo increases bandwidth with UltraBand
Vyyo, a supplier of broadband access equipment for cable operators, is promoting UltraBand technology. The technology allows cable operators to increase the bandwidth within their existing coaxial systems.
The platform, estimated to cost less than $125 per home passed, is designed to use higher frequencies over coaxial cable to allow cable companies to substantially increase bandwidth to fiber-like performance.
The UltraBand spectrum overlay platform doubles downstream bandwidth and quadruples the upstream to deliver fiber-like performance over an existing HFC plant. The enhanced platform could be used to deliver 100 channels of HD, HD on demand, IPTV tiers, and T1, DOCSIS 3.0 and Ethernet data services.
With UltraBand, cable operators can create new bandwidth on a targeted basis for approximately 10 percent of the published cost per home of telco fiber builds, while maintaining their existing investment in their HFC networks and set-top boxes.
