Sony to unveil EvDO-ready notebook computers

Sony Electronics last week announced ultra-portable computers with integrated broadband-capable wide area network (WAN) technology from Sprint for fast Internet access.

The new VAIO VGN-TXN10 Series notebooks can connect to the Sprint Power Vision Network for wireless, broadband speed. Later this year, Sprint expects to upgrade its network in select markets with EvDO Revision A (Rev. A) technology, so users can experience broadband upload speeds.

The Sprint wireless broadband network covers more than 157 million people in 216 major metropolitan areas and 486 airports across the nation. Sprint plans to reach more than 40 million people in select markets by year’s end with the EvDO Rev. A service.

The TX notebooks incorporate Sony’s SmartWi technology, seamlessly integrating wireless WAN, 802.11 b/g, wireless LAN and Bluetooth technologies.
