Siano launches new family of ISDB-T-based mobile digital TV receiver chips
Siano Mobile Silicon recently launched a new family of mobile digital TV receiver chips, the SMS1100, which the company has already field tested in Europe, Japan and Korea.
The SMS1100 supports reception of ISDB-T TV signals (the broadcast standard of Brazil and Japan) in addition to DVB-H, DVB-T, DAB, DAB-IP and T-DMB signals. It features a new, patented channel estimation engine for high levels of sensitivity and mobility performance, with field trials demonstrating that end users are able to watch mobile TV in garages and other "deep-indoor" locations, while riding high-speed trains or while driving at high speeds. The SMS1100 consumes less than 165mW (tuner and baseband combined) when receiving HDTV over DVB-T broadcasts, it integrates both an RF tuner and demodulator (baseband) and eliminates the need for any active external components.
The SMS1100 is available in samples now, with mass production in Q1 of 2008.
