SGI Boosts Fuel Efficiency

The Silicon Graphics Fuel workstation is now available with a choice of MIPS processor speeds, including the new MIPS R16000 700 MHz processor that boosts performance 25 percent at the same price point.

SGI is also offering an aggressive trade-in program; customers seeking the speedier machine can trade in older SGI workstations or UNIX OS-based systems from other vendors for credits of up to $2,000.

"With this latest processor introduction, attractive system pricing and aggressive trade-in program, we continue to respond to the needs of creative and technical professionals for a stable, high-performance computing solution at a highly affordable price," said Susan Tellep, director of product marketing for SGI.

Fuel products offer a range of processors, the VPro 3D graphics system for the IRIX operating system and a high-bandwidth design based on the SGI 3000 family of Onyx and Origin systems.
