RFS MS Series 2 RF Monitor

SNMP communications support enables the use of a new monitoring solution from Radio Frequency Systems (RFS) in high-level network management systems.

The Australian firm is presenting the MS Series 2 at the 2008 NAB Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, 14–17 April.

The system is designed for monitoring RF status in broadcast antenna and combiner systems. At the heart of the MS Series 2 is a new operating platform.

“Using the eight-inch colour touch screen, operators can easily program alarm thresholds and calibrate full-scale deflection when the transmitter is operating at full power”, said RFS Broadcast Projects and Systems Sales Engineer Matt Betts.

An active, real-time MIMIC display shows the U-Link, or motorized switch and multichannel combiner configurations. “It can also be used to indicate whether full- or half-power is being delivered to the antenna”, Betts said.

Users can reset alarms directly from the touch screen display or via the Web interface, and configure SNMP ‘traps’ to alert the network operations centre to an alarm condition. It is possible to view the system status remotely via a Web browser.

A built-in security system prevents unauthorized access to configuration parameters.
