Microsoft updates iView MediaPro to Expression Media

Microsoft has released Expression Media 1.0 for Windows and Macintosh, the successor to the iView MediaPro media asset management application.

Microsoft purchased iView Multimedia in 2006. Though the applications appear to be similar, the Windows version includes the ability to use Expression Media Encoder to create multimedia content for display in Microsoft’s new Silverlight browser plug-in.

Expression Media supports drag-and-drop functionality to import more than 100 different media formats, including digital RAW files. Files can be stored in shared folders or on CDs, hard drives or DVDs. Integrated search tools track all media, even when originals are offline. Visual catalogs allow users to browse, search and annotate your assets.

Users can add up to 128,000 files per catalog. Color labels and sets help sort and manage assets and catalogs can be shared between Windows and Mac platforms. The application also includes a tool that uses Windows Imaging Component (Windows) or CoreImage processing (Mac OS) technology to import files from the most popular camera manufacturers.
