Media Excel, a provider of encoding and transcoding solutions, now offers a new line of products based on the Texas Instruments DaVinci technology digital media processor. The new solutions provide higher quality video at much higher speed and much lower cost than existing solutions.
The new DaVinci-based HERA 4000 line of transcoder products, introduced at the NAB conference in April, is a hardware-based solution that uses the DaVinci processor in a 1RU enclosure.
The HERA family is designed to be upgradeable to accommodate new feature and codec releases, allowing Media Excel customers to enhance their existing solutions with a software upgrade, without the need to purchase additional hardware. Customers also have the ability to redeploy the HERA appliance to deliver any service required: encoding or transcoding for VOD, live IPTV, live mobile TV, offline and live Web TV.
The new encoder/transcoder product line provides live or file transcoding from mobile TV to HD applications, and multidevice broadcast delivery, converting any content for any device, including IPTV, mobile TV, or Web TV. They also offer real-time multipass encoding, advanced video pre-processing for unmatched quality output and 16 MPEG-2 channels. They offer simultaneous H.264/MPEG4/H.263 real-time transcoding for mobile TV, eight MPEG-2 SD channels to eight H.264 SD IPTV transcoding, eight SDI SD channels encoding and up to 15X faster than real-time file transcoding.
