Kulabyte Goes Real-Time With Express GreenStream

Video processing technologies developer Kulabyte said it will launch a real-time series of broadcast appliances, Express GreenStream, a VP6 and H.264 live video encoding appliance for SD and HD resolutions. The company demonstrated its Express GreenStream prototype at the Streaming Media West Conference in San Jose this week.

Express GreenStream is a turnkey targeted solution that allows users to simultaneously stream and archive live streams to the network via dual-gigabit NICs. This new solution uses Kulabyte’s patent-pending TimeSlice video encoding technology to deliver two-pass VBR qualities in live encoding and streaming environments in a lightweight, half- width, 1 RU box with solid state storage and low-power multicore CPU’s.

“It is designed to meet the needs of live event productions, sports and event Webcasters, newsgathering stations and security surveillance providers,“ said Chris Gottschalk, co-founder and chief technical officer for Kulabyte. “The Kulabyte Express products remove the encoding time bottleneck, whether the application is encoding to file or live streaming for Internet, or mobile networks.“

The San Marcos, Texas-based company said it expects to deliver the live video encoding appliance for full SD in the first quarter of 2008 and HD soon after.
