Interest strong in IPTV standards

A summary of an IPTV poll released in conjunction with NAB2006 shows a high degree of interest in open IPTV standards.

Furthermore, there is a strong interest in developing an end-to-end IPTV architecture segmenting the network into separate elements and defining specific interfaces between the elements. System cost and interoperability also were high on the list of IPTV priorities.

The findings are part of the “IP TV Industry Standards Survey” conducted by Bob Larribeau and Gary Schultz of the Multimedia Research Group for the Internet Streaming Media Alliance.

More than 20 IPTV service providers and systems companies were interviewed to determine their interest in IPTV standards.

Survey participants named DVB, the ATIS IPTV Interoperability Forum, MPEG, ISMA and IETF as the top five standards organizations.
