Genelec exhibits new SE DSP monitoring system

Genelec demonstrated its new Small Environment DSP monitoring system at AES. Designed to solve acoustic problems associated with small recording and mixing environments, the system is targeted for nearfield monitoring, mobile/location recording, digital audio workstations, broadcast and TV control rooms, surround-sound systems and home/multimedia studios.

The SE DSP system combines the new SE7261A 10in DSP subwoofer with 8130A digital input active monitors (5in bass drivers and 3/4in tweeters), configurable as a subassisted stereo or multichannel reference system. The SE7261A DSP subwoofer provides all necessary network connections to the host computer for software control and DSP resources. The system uses new AutoCal Genelec Loudspeaker Manager SE software, which provides the familiar graphic interface to help speed users through system setup and complete acoustic calibration.

The new SE7261A active DSP subwoofer has a frequency response of 19Hz-120Hz and includes eight-channel AES/EBU bass management, four notch filters and AutoPhase sub integration. The eight high-pass outputs from the subwoofer to the 8130A each has two notch filters, time of flight compensation, level alignment and video display delay compensation.

The complementary 8130A active monitoring system features a 192kHz/24-bit digital audio interface. Directivity Control Waveguide technology provides frequency balance even in difficult acoustic environments. Its integrated design allows the amplifiers and the drivers to be calibrated as a single unit, eliminating the effects of component tolerances. A new rear reflex port design ensures low distortion, and the 8130A frequency response extends down to 55Hz (-3dB).

The GLM.SE Software package includes a cabling wizard for easy setup, calibration wizard for AutoCal automatic calibration, a Genelec calibration microphone and network interface.

Taken together, the Genelec SE system is designed to adapt to the environment accurately and quickly using the company’s active monitoring technology within aluminum minimum diffraction enclosure cabinets.
