Edgeware to showcase Orbit 2x VOD server

At IBC2007, Edgeware will highlight its Orbit 2x server system, a network appliance designed to host demanding video-on-demand (VOD) services.

The Orbit 2x server system stores content in flash memory instead of hard disk; relies on dedicated hardware rather than software running on general purpose devices to stream content; and offers a built-in push and pull content distribution mechanism.

The Orbit 2x typically needs fewer servers than other systems and delivers 20Gb/s streaming capacity, or more than 8000 streams, and more than 3TB of flash storage packaged in a small 1RU half-depth appliance that consumes about one-thirtieth the power of a comparable conventional video server.
