Dutch console maker D&R exhibited several new products at IBC2006. The AirMax is a digitally controlled analog desktop mixer using the latest digital and analog technology housed in a versatile 19inch rack, drop-through mountable chassis. A simple direct access control surface combined with intelligent digital functions with instant reset enables customization of the surface to meet station or personal requirements. An essential difference with other available analog products is its capability to control a huge number of functions by software, and subsequently have the advantage to recall these functions instantly. All internal settings can be configured via USB from a standard PC, allowing visual monitoring of output levels on a meter application, in parallel with the internal meters.
The AXUM is D&R’s latest modular digital on-air broadcast system. Based on a huge matrix of 288 x 288, any configuration can be built. The combined I/O and DSP 19in rack can accept a great number of input/output modules to customize user needs, working via the CobraNet protocol. The modular control surfaces can be purchased in configurations from 8 to 48 faders with optional metering.
Also on display at IBC was the company’s new CobraNet Manager software, which provides real-time overview and control of all connected CobraNet equipment in use. A built-in scheduler is used to plan connections in time. In addition, plug-ins can be written for the software, allowing the possibility of controlling non-standard CobraNet features. In addition, the Manager software will show a complete device rack on screen for all known devices.
