Digidesign introduces Mbox 2 Micro for portable Pro Tools

Digidesign has unveiled a new form factor within its Mbox 2 family. About the size of a standard USB flash drive, the Mbox 2 Micro is a Pro Tools LE system designed for ultra-portable sequencing, editing and mixing. With its high-quality audio monitoring capabilities and on-board software, Pro Tools users can now edit and mix sessions created on Pro Tools HD, Pro Tools LE or Pro Tools M-Powered systems anywhere they go, or create loop-based and virtual instrument-driven tracks in Pro Tools LE.

Mbox 2 Micro housing is rugged anodized aluminum. Its 1/8in stereo output jack and volume wheel supports up to 24-bit/48kHz audio playback. Included with its Pro Tools LE software is a collection of more than 45 Bomb Factory and DigiRack effects plug-ins, as well as Digidesign’s Xpand! sample-playback/synthesis workstation.

According to Dusty DiMercurio, marketing manager for Digidesign personal studio products, the motivation behind the new Mbox 2 Micro was user demand for greater portability, especially from the touring market. Robert Scovill, Digidesign’s live sound market manager, says, “Mbox 2 Micro is ideal for reviewing, editing and mixing live recordings while en route to the next gig. For example, a FOH or monitor engineer can now easily open a previous night’s Pro Tools HD file with the Mbox 2 Micro and Pro Tools LE. Think of it this way — now the tour bus back lounge or even the airline seat can become your own personal post facility.”
