Avid to Support Windows Media 9

Avid Technology says it will support Windows Media 9 (WM9) in its Xpress Pro and Media Composer Adrenaline product lines. Since Microsoft's WM9 has high-definition capability with its WMV HD component, this creates an HD path for these two Avid NLE products.

With WM9 support, a filmmaker can do a single click upconversion of a standard-definition product and end up with an SD and HD master. The system will even work for projects that are edited at the DV25 (25 Mbps) standard-definition format, giving low-budget independent filmmakers a reasonable path to HD.

Avid's DS Nitris finishing system already supports WM9 and the addition of WM9 to Xpress Pro and Adrenaline adds this feature to all segments of the company's product line.
