Anagran ships FR-1000 flow router

Anagran, a new Redwood, CA-based company founded by Internet pioneer Larry Roberts, is shipping the Anagran FR-1000 flow router.

The FR-1000 is designed to meet the demands of the new generation of video, voice, data and wireless applications and eliminate network performance issues.

The flow router is compatible with a standard Layer 3 router but intelligently watches and constantly evaluates all flows traveling through it. Rather than only being able to process and route a disjointed succession of individual packets, the unit’s architecture looks at each packet as part of its higher level flow. Based on specified priorities, it intelligently delivers the most critical information at the highest quality
of performance.

This is accomplished through Intelligent Flow Discard, a new approach to traffic control and congestion management that proactively meters all incoming flows by class to fill the output capacity to a sustained 90 percent to 95 percent.
