Abekas 6000 Server Helps Provide Winter Games Coverage for Germany

ARD Das Erste and ZDF German Television are jointly using the Accom Abekas 6000 Video Production Server at the Olympic Winter Games to produce live televised coverage for German viewers.

The 6000 is installed in ARD/ZDF's main control room at the International Broadcast Center, the hub for worldwide Olympic coverage. The 6000 provides ARD/ZDF with the capability of ingesting event footage, creating clips for finished productions and continuously feeding footage to 16 plasma video monitors at the production set simultaneously.

The 6000 is configured with eight video SDI channels and 29 hours of storage at 50 Mbps compression bit rate. ARD/ZDF officials noted the 6000's stability, easy of operation and installation as factors in the purchase.
