Wohler RM Series Confidence Monitor Supports PCTV's Breakthrough HD Broadcast of "Mujeres Asesinas"

HAYWARD, Calif. — Aug. 26, 2008 — PANORAMAdtv, the video products division of Wohler Technologies Inc., today announced that its new RM-3270W-HD dual-screen HD/SD-SDI monitor was used by Mexico City's Productora y Comercializadora de Televisión S.A. (PCTV) for the breakthrough HD broadcast of the telenovela "Mujeres Asesinas" in an episode featuring one of the genre's most celebrated leading ladies, Daniela Romo. The popular series, which portrays women who seek revenge with a murderous "Desperate Housewives" sort of flair, premiered in HD on June 19.

"'Mujeres Asesinas' is a first-of-a-kind HD soap opera that was heavily publicized in all types of media across Mexico, so it was vital that we were able to launch the HD program with the tools we needed to monitor HD video quality effectively and with reliability," said Ing. Jorge Espino Hernandez, director of engineering at PCTV. "We were thrilled with the performance of Wohler's RM-3270W-HD monitor, which provided an extraordinarily clear picture and on-screen level meters that were exceptionally helpful in maintaining the quality of the HD broadcast."

As PCTV broadcasts the hour-long Spanish-language soap opera, now in HD, to viewers in Mexico, the company uses the RM-3270W-HD as a cost-effective means of performing comprehensive audio and video monitoring. The RM-3270W-HD from Wohler is a slim, lightweight system designed for confidence monitoring of HD/SD-SDI video with embedded audio in the production environment.

Each of the Wohler unit's two 7-inch high-resolution widescreen displays allows for monitoring of HD video with overlays for safe area, safe title, center mark, timecode, and display name. Integrated metering on each SDI screen offers eight channels of VU over PPM audio level meters. For added convenience, the RM-3270W-HD makes all settings available via front-panel controls and an intuitive on-screen menu. The 3RU RM Series monitor is just 2.25 inches deep, with its LCD screens mounted in a chassis that may be rotated ±55° in the vertical plane for optimum viewing. The unit installs easily in a standard 19-inch equipment rack.

"It's exciting for us to see companies such as PCTV entrust premier HD programming such as 'Mujeres Asesinas' to our RM Series monitoring systems," said Carl J. Dempsey, Wohler president and CEO. "The RM-3270W-HD and other products in the RM series are a perfect fit for this type of monitoring application, as they offer everyday performance, convenience, and functionality rarely found in similarly priced HD monitoring systems."

Systems integrator Sistemas Digitales provided PCTV with the Wohler RM Series unit to enable high-quality monitoring of the hit series' HD launch.
