Algolith to Debut Signal Conformity Monitor at HD World

New time-saving tool offers quick visual display of image degradation

Montreal, Quebec (October 7, 2009) — Algolith Inc, a leader in advanced world-class video processing solutions for broadcast, cable, satellite, and IPTV providers, today announced the launch of their newest product, the Algogear Signal Conformity Monitor, which will be showcased at HD World on October 14th and 15th in New York city, at booth #1040.

Image comparison tool quickly pinpoints discrepancies

The Algogear™ Signal Conformity Monitor (SCM-1001-MD), part of the Algogear line of video processing solutions, is a testing tool for television studio labs to quickly and conveniently monitor video images and compare the differences in an image after some processing.

“When receiving video signals and running them through processes such as encoding, decoding, transport or analogue to digital conversion, image degradation will occur,” said Jacques Patry, director of product development at Algolith Inc. “When encoding or decoding, for example, broadcasters can now easily compare a processed feed with its original. The SCM is an invaluable tool for detecting these image discrepancies following such signal processing.”

Built-in video delay ensures precise image comparison— saving time and money

The Algogear Signal Conformity Monitor provides broadcast engineers a quick visual representation of the difference between the processed and original image. With the built-in Algogear Video Delay, the ‘before’ and ‘after’ images are aligned in time for precise image comparison. The resulting display (on one side of the split screen) is a characterization of the difference between the same image, giving a quick visual map of the discrepancies. The other side of the split screen is available to view the original image, helping users pinpoint problem areas, further facilitating the process of improving image quality before it goes to air.

“The Algogear Signal Conformity Monitor eliminates the guesswork in analyzing the discrepancies in an image after it has been altered,” added Patry. “This unique monitoring tool saves time, and relieves the frustration of pinpointing image discrepancies—the SCM-1001-MD does this for you. Furthermore, as part of Algolith’s One Card, One Price, More Choices Program, it can be repurposed to any one of our other world-class solutions, at no additional cost.”
