Hal Buttermore of Linear Acoustic to Speak at 2008 Iowa DTV Symposium

LANCASTER, Pa. — Oct. 1, 2008 — Linear Acoustic, a manufacturer of customer-centric multichannel sound solutions for digital broadcast, today announced that Hal Buttermore, the company's Midwest sales engineer, will be speaking at the 2008 Iowa DTV Symposium, to be held Oct. 7-9 at the Hotel Fort Des Moines. Buttermore will give his presentation, entitled "DTV Audio Myths and Realities," on Oct. 7 at 4:30 p.m.

In his presentation Buttermore will discuss common misconceptions about the role of audio processing as broadcast stations make the DTV transition. Among the myths he will address are the notions that DTV audio processing is unnecessary and that outdated radio equipment or recording studio gear can meet the needs of DTV.

"It is an honor to speak at the Iowa DTV Symposium and to assist broadcasters in understanding audio processing as they make the transition to DTV,”" said Buttermore. "The purpose of my presentation is to show that the transition can be eased tremendously by selecting the right equipment to best process audio for compelling stereo and 5.1 surround sound. There are solutions currently available that handle all key aspects of audio, including loudness issues in commercials, and they can easily fit into any broadcaster's operations."

Buttermore has 30 years of experience in broadcast engineering. During that time he has held the positions of director of engineering for Cap Cities/ABC/Disney, Detroit, and market engineering manager at CBS, where he headed up conversion of six stations to HD. Currently, as Midwest sales engineer for Linear Acoustic, he is traveling the Midwest educating broadcasters on how to make the digital transition easily, effectively, and cost-efficiently.
