Network Electronics / VPG’s Ventura Signal Transport Platform Becomes Permanent Upgrade Following Reliable Performance at Summer Games and Paralympics

Over 100 Video Links Installed for HD and SD Video Transmission

Oxnard, CA, October 29, 2008 – Network Electronics / VPG, the industry leader in optical transport, video over IP, video over SONET/SDH and routing and signal processing, supplied over 100 video links during the Beijing Summer Games to facilitate HD and SD video transmission to and from the International Broadcasting Center (IBC), various buildings, and approximately 30 locations. The extensive network became a permanent upgrade after delivering the opening and closing ceremonies and many competitions from August 8 – 24th, as well as the Paralympics which followed from September 6 – 17th.

Working with the systems integrator Allways Tech, Network Electronics / VPG provided Ventura™ equipment to transmit the sights and sounds of the summer games for CCTV—China’s largest national TV network and China Netcom Group—the exclusive fixed-line telecommunications partner of the Games. Many international broadcasters also relied upon the Ventura signal.

The Ventura network established over 100 channels that were capable of detecting and transmitting in either HD or SD. The modules were selected for their ability to perform flawlessly in difficult environments using long-reach optics and jitter management techniques that are unique to the Ventura equipment design. The system includes powerful HD/SD processors, transmitters / receivers / transceivers, multifunction optical interface cards, HD/-SDI audio embedder / de-embedders and 4-channel SDI/ASI multiplexer/de-multiplexers designed to transport multi-channel digital data on a single fiber.

“We have used Ventura products for many years, for many applications and we are always impressed by their high reliability and ease of operations,” said Tong Su, president of Allways Tech. “The equipment is always reliable and easy to use. The transmission network at the 2008 Games in Beijing worked beautifully. When he visited CCTV studio at IBC, the chairman of the IOC highly praised the accomplishments of the CCTV broadcasting service.”

Ventura is Network Electronics / VPG’s line of modular signal transport solutions designed to exceed carrier-class specifications and provide key features prized by long-distance service providers. Ventura equipment transports video over IP, SONET/SDH and fiber overlay networks.
