DTV Transition Befuddles Commerce Candidate

Gary Locke, former Democratic governor of the state of Washington and President Obama's choice as Secretary of Commerce, came before the Senate Commerce Committee this week for his confirmation hearing. As Secretary, he would oversee the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, the agency tasked with managing the DTV converter box coupon program. He still has a lot to learn about the DTV transition though, as the Washington Post reports:

“Up until just about a month or so ago, I was not even aware of the full implications of this conversion. Most people who are affected don’t understand what digital or analog television is,” he said, adding that his brother-in-law had to help explain the process to him a few weeks ago.
