da Vinci Debuts Impresario™ at the 2008 NAB Show

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- April 14, 2008 -- Impresario™, a bold new control interface from da Vinci, made its debut at the 2008 NAB Show today in the Las Vegas Convention Center, booth SL2620. Improving on the very familiar and widely used control panels for Resolve® and da Vinci 2K Plus™ that have been industry benchmarks for many years, this singularly stunning new design offers top-notch functionality and more flexibility, is easy and comfortable to use, and provides the latest, most customizable control technology. In a further departure from convention, da Vinci will be making an open API available, which means Impresario can be deployed for use with third-party devices.

“This is the Rolls-Royce® of control surfaces -- truly a luxury and performance experience for the driver,” said Dean Lyon, da Vinci director of marketing. “We‘ve leveraged all our years of professional experience to get this right, even down to the smallest details -- from variable backlighting for the soft keys to the position and feel of the joyball and rings. These days, colorists and their assistants are spending long hours in the chair, and we at da Vinci believe they deserve not only the best equipment but a comfortable user experience.”

Impresario was designed for speed and efficiency, with user-defined functions to suit individual preferences, and the latest ergonomic accommodations to thwart fatigue. With controls always near at hand, operators no longer need to reach. Panels have been arranged so they can be swapped left to right for individual users, and soft keys have been grouped in a flexible arrangement that will accommodate two-handed use. Soft keys and controls are located on displays so that they always line up with their labels, and control position feedback appears directly on the high-resolution, full color displays as well as on the GUI. To meet individual preferences, Impresario supports both mouse or pen and tablet, in addition to an integrated track pad and keyboard, so colorists as well as editors and VFX artists will feel right at home. New features of Impresario are so innovative that da Vinci has several patents pending regarding their design.

Impresario‘s software-based functionality offers key advantages. For example, profiles can be saved not only in a given suite but on a USB drive for easy transfer elsewhere. Likewise, future upgrades and modifications can be made simply and cost-effectively.

Impresario will begin shipping this fall. da Vinci is currently demonstrating Impresario at the 2008 NAB Show, today through April 17, in booth SL2620. Orders are being taken for placement in a priority queue.
