SHINING LAUNCHES WORLD'S FIRST CAMERA-MOUNTABLE, BROADCAST-QUALITY DV CONVERSION TOOL

Beetle™ Bridges Analog-Digital Divide with Portability, Light Weight, Durability and Instant Wireless Video Streaming - Optimized for Betacam™ Users.

LAS VEGAS (NAB, Booth # SU6830) - Despite the enormous HD sea change consuming the video and broadcast industries, analog users, their equipment, and perhaps most importantly, their content are still very much a factor.

For this reason, Shining Technology, Inc. (http://www.shining.com), an award-winning, global provider of tapeless acquisition and conversion hardware, announces the Beetle™ DV 1850S, the world's first camera-mountable device that simplifies analog-to-digital video conversion.

For the hundreds of thousands of high-end analog camera users who must find new ways of working with their video content digitally or risk sacrificing it when upgrading to HD, Beetle can be a valuable asset, bridging their analog and digital worlds while stretching their original investment. More than 300,000 Betacam™ users alone are estimated, in addition to other pervasive analog formats like 8mm and VHS.

Lightweight, portable and rugged, Beetle is the missing link in the analog video pro's toolkit, allowing users to easily capture and convert video into professional-quality digital video formats (DV25, DV50 and MPEG). It's equally as valuable for exporting edited digital video to analog videotape recorders/displays (VTRs).

Engineered with broadcast quality, Beetle converts the most widely used analog video signals to/from digitized professional FireWire DV signals. In addition, it also converts the FireWire AV/C control protocols to/from RS232/422 and other implemented controls of analog devices like cameras and VTRs.

Wireless Video Streaming

Beetle also incorporates an advanced USB-Wi-Fi® feature (optional), allowing seamless, instant low-res online video streaming with simultaneous full-size video capture.

Other key features include:

Environmental noise eliminated with balanced audio inputs

On-Board 2.8" LCD screen allows real-time video review (while recording)

Automatic NTSC/PAL format and audio sampling rate detection

Powered by V-Lock or G-Lock battery or external +6~18V DC power

Applications

Full digital ENG acquisition - instant field news editing - faster story production/uplink

Corporate / event video production - Same-Day Editing (SDE)

Feature film production - instant rough cut preview on location

VTR digital-Betacam tape conversion - helps secure significant analog investments

Large venue projection

"It's important to remember that everyone making the jump to HD formats will likely experience challenges along the way," said Chris Wang, CEO, Shining Technology. "Beyond equipment, content is often one's most valuable asset, so we're proud to address a key industry need and void in the marketplace - helping analog professionals play in the digital video world."

Pricing & Availability

The Beetle DV 1850S is expected to ship in Q4 2008. Pricing has not been set, but will be announced at a future date, along with additional product information. Beetle will ship with a power adapter, V/G-lock plate for mounting, FireWire cable and BNC cables (connecting between camera and the Beetle).
